Ready for the weekend? That's probably a pretty easy question to answer.
Here's another one: With everything you've got going on, did you manage to keep up with all the news service providers and fellow New IP Agency members shared over the past few days? Probably not. That's why, each week, we pull together this roundup of NIA members' virtualization news. Don't forget to send along your updates, too.
Now, let's dive in:
Dorado Software recently expanded its Virtualized Network Function (VNF) support of F5 Virtual BIG-IP Local Traffic Manager (LTM) platforms and interconnections to allow service provider cloud carriers to easily integrate LTM and other VNFs into new or existing networks. Redcell MANO by
Dorado Software Inc. has capabilities to instantiate, maintain, scale and remove end-to-end network services, the vendor says, along with VNF onboarding and NFVO orchestration. As a member of the Technology Alliance Program by F5 Networks Inc. (Nasdaq: FFIV), Dorado Software works with F5 to promote interoperability via a framework for collaboration on MANO/NFV solutions, Dorado says.
In another example of collaboration, Nokia and T-Mobile wrapped up preliminary 5G testing using T-Mobile's 28GHz spectrum and Nokia's commercial 5G-ready AirScale radio platform. The two companies highlighted LTE-Advanced technologies, including high order MIMO, and reached throughput rates of several gigabits per second and real-time latency of 1.8 milliseconds while streaming four simultaneous 4K videos, according to a published statement. Nokia Corp. (NYSE: NOK) and T-Mobile US Inc. expect to conduct additional network testing and application validation toward standardizing 5G technology, they said. "We've now brought 5G out of the lab and into the field. With Nokia's partnership, we're seeing the kind of astounding data speeds and low latency that are hallmarks of 5G and set the standard for future network performance," said Neville Ray, chief technology officer at T-Mobile.
On Sept. 21, ZTE debuted an access-layer 100G packet transport product oriented to 5G bearing. Dubbed the ZXCTN 6180H, the product supports large-capacity, low-delay forwarding and 40GE/100GE networking, and bears Pre5G and 5G access-layer packet transport services, according to ZTE Corp. (Shenzhen: 000063; Hong Kong: 0763). The packet transport product supports applications like mass IoT; broadband mobile communication; and high-reliability, low-delay input-output virtualization (IOV), plus high requirements for bearer network bandwidth, SDN and delay, the vendor says. The ZXCTN 6180H supports optical channel data unit (ODUx) based server isolation; includes server quality management (SQM) technology; is 3U high; supports 320G switching capacity; provides 25GE/40GE/100GE interfaces and evolves to support SDN. Its included software allows service providers or enterprises to attain intelligent centralized network control and 5G-oriented network architecture demands, according to ZTE.
During the 42nd European Conference on Optical Communications (ECOC 2016) in Dusseldorf, Huawei unveiled three network solutions designed to enable future network trends – large capacity, low latency and intelligence. To address large-capacity network bearers, Huawei launched the 80T ultra large-capacity beyond-1000km transmission solution, created to fix the transmission rate bottleneck that has bottle-necked some operators' backbone bearer networks. The 80T solution uses 1000km ultra-long-haul transmission at the single-carrier rate of 500 Gbit/s in the 128QAM higher-order modulation format by using advanced ODSP/SDFEC signal processing technologies.
For low latency, Huawei released Flex-Grid, a sub-wavelength all-optical cross-connect technology capable of processing extremely-fine-grained spectra. It extends the traditional optical cross-connection capability from the wavelength level to the sub-wavelength level, Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd. says. This technology allows for end-to-end all-optical switching and one-hop transmission from the core layer to the access layer.
With regards to intelligent networks, Huawei developed the Virtual Network Engine (VNE), featuring automatic network resource allocation, self-service network management, effective resource utilization, secure resource management and service diversity. These meet operators' networking and automated management requirements, provide network self-sensing and self-management capabilities, and enable industry operations and maintenance (O&M) to move into the intelligence era, Huawei says.
Although cloud adoption continues to grow, 69% of organizations do not yet have "mature" cloud strategies and a measly 3% have "optimized cloud strategies generating superior business outcomes," according to a recent IDC study sponsored by
Cisco Systems Inc. (Nasdaq: CSCO) Those that have maximized their cloud investment see an average benefit of $3 million per cloud-based application in additional revenue, along with $1 million in cost savings, the report finds. In most cases, increased revenue came from new products and services, more rapidly gaining new customers or an accelerated ability to sell into new markets, IDC says. All but 5% of leading organizations leverage hybrid cloud for their success, the study continues.
Simultaneously, Cisco debuted a set of Cloud Professional Services designed to help end-customers hasten their digital transformations. These services include multi-cloud and orchestration services, cloud acceleration services around OpenStack and PaaS, application and cloud migration services and IT transformation offerings centered on DevOps.
KPN Ventures, the investment arm of Dutch-based service provider
KPN Telecom NV (NYSE: KPN), recently invested in cybersecurity firm SecurityMatters. The five-year-old developer already worked with KPN, which used its network monitoring solution SilentDefense to safeguard industrial customers in The Netherlands.
