Orange Poland will test AT&T ECOMP, according to an executive at the French operator.
One reason the service provider is relying on another operator's network management and orchestration platform? The immature MANO sector is complex, says Jehanne Savi, executive leader of Orange's All-IP & On-Demand Networks Programs, at SDN World Congress, reports Light Reading. "We're concerned about open source initiative fragmentation… Especially in the MANO domain, which is so sensitive. It is a key component in delivering agility," she says.
In September, Orange Business Services said it would test ECOMP – Enhanced Control, Orchestration, Management and Policy -- in outside workshops and Orange Labs (See Orange Enters AT&T ECOMP Universe ). The service provider is trialing different use cases across 28 countries; Poland will use the AT&T Inc. (NYSE: T) platform, says Savi.
The partnership is not based on partnership alone. Both are working on APIs for a so-called digital platform model that would allow the federation of SDN and NFV assets, Light Reading reports. This step is designed to improve customer service and engagement -- key to the digital transformation so many organizations seek.
