What We Do

As part of the services offered by NIA, we aim to provide real-world data about interoperability between NFV elements via independent and open multi-vendor industry tests. We do this by conducting periodic test evaluations, each designed to address the various building blocks of Network Functions Virtualization. The results of evaluations are made publically available so CSPs and enterprises of all sizes may benefit from the knowledge of which vendors’ solutions work together; creating a taxonomy of interoperable virtualized solutions. This is an ongoing process that any organization can participate in, including past and present test evaluations. The goal of all of the NIA’s evaluations is to provide the communications industry with information on interoperable NFV solutions in order to accelerate the adoption of NFV.

Future Evaluations

The NIA and its membership will continue to define interoperability evaluations for the NIA to host, to include new evaluations on Service Function Chaining with Traditional Access Networks and SDN Networks, Monitoring, Traffic Steering, High Availability and Auto Healing. We invite and encourage all organizations offering NFV components to join the tests and help provide the industry with the first complete overview of truly interoperable virtualized networking solutions.

How Vendors Participate in the NIA’s Evaluations

NIA interoperability evaluations are exclusively reserved to NIA members. NIA members receive significantly discounted rates on interoperability evaluations performed by the NIA’s contracted testing lab, EANTC, an internationally recognized independent lab.

NFVi and VNF vendors may participate in the NIA’s interoperability evaluations either remotely or on-site.

About Our Testing Lab

NIA has contracted the European Advanced Networking Test Center (EANTC), the world's leading independent test lab, to coordinate and implement the interoperability program. EANTC has been demonstrating its ability to efficiently and professionally perform interoperability showcases since 1999, running, for example, the MPLS World Congress Interoperability showcase for the past 12 years. EANTC has also been a contributing member of ETSI's NFV Industry Specifications Group since 2013 and has co-authored the PoC (proof of concept) framework. We are excited to have EANTC on board.
