I'm guessing that the third area, the "required organizational changes to make this transformation successful" may be one of the difficult processes. The typical resistance to change may cause some at least initial  hitches to implementation to SDN and NFV. It would be interesting to see some case studies on how this has become successful or a checklist of what might be necessary for positive change.

Injecting open source methodologies into these systems is really where I see maximum benefit here. While there may be some struggles from a governance standpoint, I don't expect it to hinder progress at all.
