One way you can tell a technology is having or will have a huge impact is by the number and extent of research going into it. When it comes to NFV and SDN, it's fascinating to see not only the number of studies, but also the far-ranging topics within the technologies. To me, it underscores just how much virtualization is reshaping the entire telecommunications industry -- and just how important, therefore, it is for operators and their partners to make the right investments and decisions, especially in areas such as standards - the building blocks of all future product purchases and development initiatives.
