Light Reading's 2020 Vision Executive Summit in Dublin last week brought together communications industry leaders from around the globe to discuss and debate technological and business challenges while also providing great networking opportunities that mixed in the best of Ireland -- Guinness, Irish dance, golf, pubs and more.
While attendees mixed and mingled and had some fun at the Powerscourt Hotel outside of Dublin, they were also there for some serious business. As The New IP readers all know, our industry is on the cusp of dramatic, inevitable and irreversible change. At 2020 Vision, during two intense days, keynotes, panelists and attendees sat down to talk about how to come to grips with those change agents -- including New IP technologies such as open source, virtualization, white boxes, security and more -- and how to use them to build and launch innovative and profitable new applications and services.
During the event, Heavy Reading analysts released new research around virtualization, big data and analytics and cyber security. In addition, Teresa Mastrangelo, senior analyst at Heavy Reading, shared the results of the industry's first quantitative Virtualization Indexes. Heavy Reading worked with
Cisco Systems Inc. (Nasdaq: CSCO), Ericsson AB (Nasdaq: ERIC), HP Inc. (NYSE: HPQ) and Intel Corp. (Nasdaq: INTC) to develop the Virtualization Indexes, which are made up of aggregating survey results from 25 of the world's largest CSPs. These indexes include benchmarking progress in getting virtualization components into live networks; near-term (12/24-month) plans for commercializing virtualization components; and CSP budget plans specific to virtualization initiatives.
Also at the event, The New IP Agency released the results of its first NFV interoperability test and laid out plans for Phase 2 of testing.
Though the days were busy, attendees still found time to relax and have some fun. Click on the slideshow below to see how we captured the event. And for more coverage from the event, check out these articles on The New IP and Light Reading:
