Steel

Thanks everyone.  Thanks again Alison.  Enjoyed it.

Thank you, Chris. This was a great show. Thanks for sharing your insight into virtualization and more.

Steel

Thanks to everyone for attending and for postimg some terrific, thoughtful questions for Chris. The audio is available as an archive: http://www.newipagency.com/radio.asp?doc_id=725051

Steel

We have one network cloud - AIC - A&T Integrated Cloud

Thanks you both, Chris and Alison.  Very informative....

Steel

If AT&T has multiple clouds, what is your opinion of managing the operational scale?

Steel

Yes, thanks for a great presentation and good questions/answers

Silver

@phyberoptic - Good question about the playbook. @VP-Advan, aka Chris, did a terrific job explaining his recommendations for a company about to embark on a virtualization journey. The audio is available now (or in a minute or two) as an archived download.

Steel

Thanks @Alison and @Chris for a great show!

Platinum

OpenStack - resiliency, migration of workloads, hitless upgrades betwoeen versions, improved stability

I agree @Chris and @Alison - very well done - thanks

Steel

Thanks, @Kelsey, for listening.

Steel

Thanks @Chris and @Alison, really interesting program!

What capabilities would you like to see implemented to make Open Stack more Carrier Grade?

Steel

how do you determine how much vCPU, memory, bandwidth you need from VNF deployments since you are swithing from hardware to software - is that a difficult process go thru

Steel

Q: Are some of the 'supposed benefits' ie closed loop/self healing network functions, automatic/elastic service self turn up and turn down, etc being seen yet in AT&T's progress or is the timetable still too early?

Steel

we have serices in production today using closed loop and that are elastic based on the output of that loop

Q: How does ECOMP fit in to the ETSI NFV ISG Architecture?

Steel

Next big shift -- appliaction of machine learning and AI to automation of the network and systems

Q for Chris: What do you see as being the next technology shift that will substabtially change your network based services and/or your subscribers//enterprise evolutions? What do you put into your playbook to look for substantial shifts in user usage profiles?

Steel

Thanks to Chris for being such a great guest. He'll join us in a second or two.

Steel

thanks you so much very helpful

Steel

What is your perspective of vendor provided "VNF managers"?  Can they be used with ECOMP? Do you allow them to be used?

Steel

how do you define success - I keep hearing about percentage that is virtualize - but are you measuing it based on new revenue or cost saving or profitability

Steel

The enormous discontinuity of open source and the cloud has disrupted the incombent Telecom equipment vendors, how do you bring in more agile suppliers given this

You offer many services - how did you decide which service to virtualize first --- what were teh criteria's to make that decision

Steel

Q.. what would be the inital steps to crating a virtualization playbook?  What is your definition of this playbook?

Steel

You are describing the "Seal Team 6" of IT/Networking in term of skillset and talent.

That is perfect for developing SDN+NFV bleeding edge, picking talent that would be 0.1% of workforce.

How do you see the integration of the rest of the workforce in this efford?

Steel

Q for Chris: I keep hearing about how consumers are increasingly epecting an "Uber-like" experience  -- how is AT&T adapting to that expectation? How long until it's critical to traditional telco's business to be able to provide that Uber experience for changing their services, bandwidth, etc?

Platinum

What is your take on placing cloud services. applications, content closer to subscribers in the RAN area of the mobile network to improve latency and reduce cost for delivering services?

Steel

Makes sense - sounds like SP's should be wary of off-the-shelf solutions - needs to be customized to fit their needs.

issues are new skill sets for operations, devops, 6-9's testing, new problem dev techniques to reuce time and costs to resolution

Steel

yes, fragmentation of CSP networks

Silver

Skillsets and Processes

Steel

fragmentation of CSP networks just as Chris has said

skill set challenges

Platinum

Q for Chris: in your testing, what has been the biggest challenge to date for you?

Platinum

agreed @Kelsey -- puts things in perspective

Platinum

Love the snowflakes and legos analogy!

Ack! I hope so, too, Alison! Sunny and warm in North Carolina.

Chicagoland -- luckily no hurricanes up here.

Platinum

Good afternoon everyone!  Remember to turn up your volume on the computers.  At the top of the hour an audio player will pop up on your screen.  If you don't see it, try to press F5 to refresh your screen. Remember, there's no slides for this it's just a discussion, so be sure to post your questions, comments and thoughts on the message boards and we will join you on the chat after the audio stream.

Platinum

I'm ready! Looking forward to this show!

Platinum

Excited to hear from AT&T during today's radio show.

Steel

Look forward to today's event.

Thanks, @Kelsey. This will be a fantastic show. Spoke to Chris earlier this week and he's excited.

Steel

Looking forward to hearing Chris Rice's discuss virtualization!
